Workshops
As well as producing exciting and engaging shows, we also offer high-quality writing workshops. These workshops are relaxed, engaging, active, and designed to offer prompts and exercises to help writers get started or overcome hurdles in their writing.
Each is delivered by Sam Ruddock, a publisher, editor, reader, and writer, and Director of Story Machine Productions.
Our current workshops offers are:
Writing Your Life
An introduction to life-writing, featuring writing exercises, conversation, and textual study. Up to 2.5 hours.
Editing Skills
Takes the writer through key tools to bring the best out of a text. From defining the author’s intentions and priorities, to condensing and sculpting, we look at how you can work with an author to maximise the impact of plot, pacing, and dialogue, and characterisation.
* Note, this workshop focuses on macro editing, rather than copy editing.
Writing Fiction
Prompts and exercises to help writers think afresh about their work and allow imagination to ease free of that nagging critical voice.
Bringing Books to Life
In this workshop we explore the art of adaptation, and the task of helping work step off the page and into performance. We share some of the tools Story Machine Productions uses when creating our shows.
